ASABA, DELTA STATE — Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has commenced intensive renovation and technological upgrades of Effective Schools across the State to enhance digital learning and improve the quality of basic education.
The intervention, jointly funded by the Federal Government through the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the Delta State Government, includes the facelift of school premises, the provision of additional tablets, laptops, desktops and interactive smart boards for e-learning, as well as the complete overhaul of the schools’ control rooms to enhance digital teaching, learning and school administration.
Supervision Visit to Uzoigwe Primary School
The Executive Chairman of Delta SUBEB, Hon. Samuel Mariere, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, led Members of the Board on a supervision visit to Uzoigwe Primary School, Asaba, where he said the ongoing renovation was necessary to ensure that the State’s Effective Schools continue to meet current national standards for technology-driven education.
He noted that the initiative demonstrates the commitment of the Federal and Delta State Governments to providing pupils with a modern learning environment, in line with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, which places priority on improved access to quality education and human capital development.
Technology-Driven Effective Schools
According to him, effective schools are driven by technology, enabling teachers to deliver the curriculum more efficiently while exposing pupils to modern methods of learning.
“Through this innovation the school curriculum can be delivered to learners simultaneously through digital platforms, ensuring that quality instruction reaches every child. This will further strengthen teaching effectiveness and improve learning outcomes. Digital monitoring of teachers’ attendance and wellbeing is also an integral part of this renovation.”
Strengthening School Security & Community Ownership
Hon. Mariere further disclosed that school security would be strengthened through the active participation of the School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), which have been established in every Local Government Area to support school management, protect school facilities and promote community ownership.
Next Steps
He added that plans are underway to extend the Effective School Initiative to more public primary schools across Delta State, reaffirming the Board’s commitment to leveraging technology to transform basic education and prepare pupils for the demands of the digital age.
